Rock Crown was recorded in New Orleans at the famous and now defunct Kingsway Studio on the edge of the French Quarter. It was by far and away the most memorable recording experience I have ever been a part of. Having been on the road for going on two years straight, Nola became the closest thing to a home we had. In the end, we left with a record that mirrored the epicurean existence of life in the Big Easy. Rock Crown was an exercise in trying to undo American Standard. The joke was on us, it was commercial suicide. Being held up a year in litigation between two warring record labels didn’t help out the release, either. While I don’t think the record remains as epic a departure as I would have liked in my minds eye…many of our fans over the years have told me it remains their personal favorite…lots of flavors…no two songs sounding alike. The thematic content of the record is still something I’m very proud of…the closest thing we’ve ever done to a concept record.
